TAMSHI = ROPE, YACU = WATER

Our unique terroir is in Tamshiyacu, 45 minutes away from Iquitos, Peru, in the Amazon region where the climate and vegetation have been the cradle of origin of the cacao tree which produces the “Food from the Gods”

Discover the magic of PERU’s finest cacao

We discovered Tamshiyacu, a friendly and magical town, only accessible by boat up the Amazon river from Iquitos. We immediately fell in love with Peruvian cacao and Tamshiyacu.

The cacao tree is a native tree from the Peruvian jungle, and can reach up to 20 meters and live 100 years.  Our region counts 60% of the genetic diversity of cacao known in the world.

Our mission is to produce cacao of the highest quality while helping preserve native cacao that forms part of the genetic heritage of Peru.

The Peruvian Amazon’s finest cacao genotypes and terroir, our unique agro-forestry practices that help preserve fauna and flora, state-of-the-art expertise in modern traceability, world-class research in fermentation techniques, and the passion of the men and women who are part of the TAMSHI family, all contribute in bringing you Peru’s Finest Cacao.

TAMSHI was reborn in 2018 in the hands of new owners, who have courageously decided to save the Company and all its employees after the previous administration left the Company on the verge of bankruptcy. We are united by the common vision and passion for sustainable and high-quality cacao and chocolate products, and the desire to provide significant positive social impact within the communities in which we operate.

The change of ownership marks a new era in the history of the Company.  The vision of the new owners is to develop a sustainable, profitable, socially and environmentally responsible Company.

TO FULFIL OUR VISION, WE HAVE ORGANIZED OUR ACTIVITIES INTO 4 FUNDAMENTAL PILLARS:

TAMSHI ESTATE:  Together with some of the best experts in the world and Peru, we are developing a unique agro-forestry model that includes combining native cacao trees and with other native forest species of Amazonian trees.  The resulting ecosystem helps preserve fauna and flora while ensuring the sustainable production of cacao and the conservation of endangered species (like the rosewood tree).

TAMSHI PAPEC: Our program to support and empower local small farmers brings them technical and financial support to learn techniques for sustainable cacao cultivation in agro-forestry systems.  This helps them leave migratory agriculture and provides them a brighter future through more stable income.

TAMSHI RESERVE:  The new owners have made the commitment, if the authorities permit and support the initiative, to donate, on top of the 1,300 hectares that are dedicated for preservation area inside the Estate, more than 1,200 hectares in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest to develop what could become one of the largest private conservation area in Loreto, and to support scientific research on fauna and flora.

FOUNDATION TAMSHI:  Aim at improving the quality of life of the communities by supporting social initiatives focused on education and healthcare.
